🏔️ POS 3 → Sembalun Crater Rim (2,639m)
The hardest section of Day 1. Steep, relentless ascent as you climb the crater wall. The vegetation fades and you break above the treeline. At the top, the jaw-dropping view of Segara Anak Lake appears — a massive turquoise crater lake with the summit of Rinjani towering across the caldera. Your campsite is right on the rim.
|
| 15:00 – 17:30 |
⛺ Settle In & Sunset
Tent is ready. Relax, take photos of the caldera, and watch the sunset paint the crater lake and summit in shades of gold, orange, and crimson. Pro tip: scout the summit trail with your guide before dark so you know the first section.

Hot dinner served at camp. Eat well — you’ll need the energy for the summit push.
|
| 18:30 – 01:30 |

Day 2
Summit Attack → Descend to Sembalun Village
| 01:30 – 02:00 |
🌙 Wake Up & Light Snack
Wake up in the cold mountain air. Quick coffee/tea and light breakfast. Put on your warm layers, gloves, beanie, and headlamp. This is it — summit time.
|
| 02:00 – 05:30 |
🔝 Summit Push: Crater Rim → Rinjani Summit (3,726m)
The toughest 3–4 hours of the trek. You hike under a blanket of stars, your headlamp beam your only guide. The trail climbs steeply over loose volcanic scree and rock — two steps forward, one step back. As dawn breaks, the sky transforms through deep purple, crimson, and gold. The final ridge reveals the true summit.
|
| 05:30 – 06:15 |
🌅 Sunrise at 3,726 Meters — YOU MADE IT!

Below you: the massive Segara Anak Lake with its volcanic cone, the Gili Islands floating in the sea, Mount Agung in Bali on the horizon, and all of Lombok stretching beneath your feet. This sunrise is unlike anything else in Indonesia. Photos, celebration, and a moment of pure awe.
|
| 06:15 – 08:00 |

⚠️ Important — This Trek Is Demanding
The 2D1N Summit Express is not recommended for first-time hikers, children under 15, or anyone with low fitness. You’ll be trekking 7–8 hours on Day 1, sleeping 5–6 hours, then summiting for 3–4 hours starting at 2:00 AM, followed by a 7–8 hour total descent. This is a serious physical challenge. The 2D1N Crater Rim Senaru or 3D2N Summit & Lake are better options if you prefer a more relaxed pace.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
How difficult is the 2D1N Summit trek really?
This is a very demanding trek. Day 1 involves 7–8 hours of steady ascent gaining ~1,500 meters. After roughly 5–6 hours of sleep, you wake at 1:30 AM for a 3–4 hour summit push on loose volcanic scree (gaining another 1,100m), followed by a full descent back to Sembalun (another 7–8 hours). Previous multi-day hiking experience and high cardiovascular fitness are required. If you’re unsure, the 3D2N Summit & Lake package provides a better-paced alternative.
What is the summit push like? Why start at 2 AM?
The summit push begins at 2:00 AM to reach the peak by sunrise (5:30–6:00 AM). You hike in complete darkness with headlamps. The trail is steep, with sections of loose volcanic scree — notoriously “two steps up, one step back.” It’s mentally and physically challenging but the reward is extraordinary. Starting early also avoids the midday heat on the descent and gives you the best chance of clear summit views before clouds roll in.
How cold is it at the summit and crater rim?
The crater rim campsite (2,639m) drops to 5–10°C at night. During the summit push (3,000m+), temperatures can approach 0°C with strong wind chill. You need: thermal base layer, fleece, insulated jacket, gloves, beanie, and a buff. We provide warm sleeping bags, but summit push clothing is your responsibility — don’t underestimate the cold.
Will I get altitude sickness at 3,726 meters?
At 3,726 meters, AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) is a real concern, even for fit trekkers. Symptoms include headache, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue. Key prevention tips: spend at least one night at Sembalun (1,150m) before the trek, stay super-hydrated, ascend slowly, and communicate any symptoms to your guide immediately. Our guides are trained in altitude-related first response. Travel insurance with helicopter evacuation is mandatory.
What’s the difference between 2D1N Summit and 3D2N Summit & Lake?
The 2D1N Summit is an express trek — summit and straight back. The 3D2N Summit & Lake adds an extra day: after summiting, you descend into the caldera to camp beside Segara Anak Lake, soak in natural hot springs, and trek out via Senaru. The 3D2N spreads the effort across three days and includes the lake experience. Choose 2D1N if you’re short on time and very fit; choose 3D2N for the complete Rinjani experience at a more sustainable pace.
Do I need trekking poles?
YES. Strongly recommended. Trekking poles are invaluable on the steep scree of the summit push and essential for the long descent to protect your knees. If you don’t own a pair, you can rent them in Sembalun before the trek — just ask us.
How do I book this trek?
Contact us via WhatsApp at +62 822-3680-3197 or email tetebatuadventures@gmail.com. Tell us your preferred dates and group size. A small deposit ($50 USD/person) secures your booking — balance payable on arrival at Sembalun.
