β Frequently Asked Questions
How difficult is this trek? Can beginners do it?
Yes! The 2D1N Crater Rim Senaru is the most beginner-friendly Rinjani trek. There is no summit push β you hike to the crater rim at 2,641 meters, camp overnight, and descend the next day. A reasonable fitness level is recommended, as Day 1 involves 6β7 hours of steady ascent with elevation gain of ~2,000 meters. The trail is well-defined and non-technical.
What is the altitude? Will I get altitude sickness?
The campsite at Senaru Crater Rim sits at 2,641 meters above sea level. Mild AMS symptoms are less common at this altitude compared to the summit (3,726m), but can still occur in sensitive individuals. Stay hydrated, ascend slowly, and inform your guide immediately if you feel unwell.
How cold does it get at the crater rim?
Daytime temperatures at camp are pleasant (15β20Β°C). At night, temperatures can drop to 5β10Β°C with wind chill. A warm jacket, gloves, and beanie are essential. Sleeping bags are provided by us.
What’s the difference between Senaru and Sembalun routes?
The Senaru route (north) is a lush tropical rainforest trek β shaded, green, and rich in wildlife. Perfect for beginners. The Sembalun route (east) is open savanna, steeper, and used for summit packages.
Are toilets available on the trail?
Basic toilet facilities exist at some pos (rest stops). At the crater rim campsite, our team sets up a portable toilet tent for privacy. Please bring personal toiletries and wet wipes.
When is the best season for this trek?
April to November (dry season) offers the best conditions β clear skies and dry trails. Peak months are July and August. December to March is rainy season; Rinjani National Park main routes typically close January 1 β March 31.
Can you arrange transport from Bali or Gili Islands?
Absolutely! We arrange fast boat + private car transfer packages from Bali, Gili Trawangan, Gili Air, or Gili Meno to Senaru. We also offer airport pickup from Lombok International Airport (LOP).
What happens if the weather is bad?
Safety is our top priority. In heavy rain or dangerous conditions, the guide may modify or delay the trek. In extreme cases, the trek may be postponed or refunded according to our cancellation policy.
